Appearance: Kallen is fairly average height and has short, dark pink hair, not quite reaching her shoulders, and piercing blue eyes. She wears her hair pulled back with a red and black bandana into spiky chunks.

She wears a red body suit with a zipper up the front, black trim, and white and black guards on the thighs. Over the body suit she wears a black, hip length coat that has brown and white trim, and she wears black boots.

Personality: Kallen has a false personality that she shows around her family and the people from school. The personality she presents to people is that of a quiet girl with a weak body. This Kallen is unassertive and shy, though not unfriendly. She’s responsible and reliable, but most people don’t rely on her too heavily in consideration of her poor health.

The real Kallen is nearly opposite to the version of herself she wants most people to see. Kallen is opinionated, assertive, and brash. She is actually very athletic and fit. She’s quick to jump to conclusions and act on them, though she is also very intelligent, and can think things through and plan based on facts if she gives herself the time to do so. She is very devoted to her cause, to the point of having a one-track-mind about it.

Abilities/Strengths: Kallen can pilot Knightmares, which are giant mobile suits, with great skill. She also can use smaller weapons like various sorts of guns, and knives. She has very good reflexes. Kallen is very dedicated and devoted, mostly to the Black Knights but also to the, admittedly few, people she actually cares about. That she goes after what she wants and decides to do whole-heartedly is one of Kallen’s strengths. It could also be said that Kallen is a very good actress, with how well she plays her weak persona for her friends and family.

Weaknesses: Kallen can be too brash, acting before she has a chance to think. She doesn’t really stop to think about other people’s point of views, and when people tell her things she hasn’t thought about, she can get rather flustered. She really loved her brother, and his death affected her greatly, and much of what she does is really for her brother.

History: Kallen lived with her parents and older brother Naoto until her parents got divorced soon after Britannia took over Japan and dubbed it Area 11. Her brother went to live with their mother while Kallen stayed with their father, but the siblings visited each other often and stayed close.

Not long after his divorce, Kallen’s father remarried. His new wife had also been divorced, with a daughter from her first marriage. Kallen’s new step-sister, Shirley, spent most of her time with her father, but did occasionally spend time at her mother’s house.

Near the end of Kallen’s second year of middle school, Naoto became part of a resistance organization against Britannia. Kallen was the only person outside of the movement itself that he told about joining it. It didn’t take long before he became one of the leaders of the group.

When Kallen entered high school, both she and Shirley joined the student council. But a few months later Naoto was killed by a Britannian soldier while on one of the group’s missions. The members of the resistance organization covered it up, making it look as though he had been an innocent civilian caught in the attack. Kallen’s mother, devastated by the loss of her son, took a position as maid in her ex-husband’s house so that at least she could be close to her daughter.

Kallen’s mother spoke out often against resistance groups as reckless people who hurt ordinary, loyal people like her son. Kallen resented her mother for speaking ill of Naoto’s cause and treated her as though she was an ordinary maid who had nothing to do with her. She also searched out members Naoto’s resistance movement she’d once gotten to meet, and joined their cause.

On days when Shirley’s visits and Kallen’s missions coincided, Shirley always got very worried about where her step-sister disappeared to, and would question her about it. To keep from being hounded, or from having her disappearances pointed out to her father or step-mother, Kallen decided she needed an alibi. To this end, she asked Lelouch Lamperouge, a fellow student council member, to pretend to be her boyfriend. To her relief, he agreed without asking her why. While somewhat awkward to keep up appearances at school, it made for a good excuse, and Shirley believed she was sneaking out to meet with her ‘boyfriend’.

One day on a mission in Shinjuku, Kallen was isolated from the rest of the resistance with Britannian soldiers closing in on her when she was helped by an unknown person. He attacked the enemy, and gave the resistance group a train full of knightmare frames captured from the Britannians.

The next day at school, Lelouch suddenly tells Kallen that if anyone asks, they were together during the Shinjuku incident. Suspicious, Kallen intended to bring it up with him sometime during the welcoming party they were going to have that afternoon for the newest addition to the student council, Kururugi Suzaku. After all, no one but her group and the man who’d helped them win should have any reason to mention Shinjuku to her, and, thinking about it, Lelouch’s voice could be similar to that guy’s. But during the party, she gets a call on her cell phone from the man from Shinjuku, making it impossible that he and Lelouch were the same person, what with Lelouch being in the same room with her. Clearly he had his own reasons for asking her to vouch for him, and was just using the Shinjuku incident as a helpful time-frame.

This mysterious man, calling himself Zero, helps the resistance group in a number of attacks, and nearly by default becomes their leader. He clearly has a long-term plan, and not long after joining them he has them appear publicly as the Black Knights. They announce the Black Knights’ mission to be to fight for justice and to protect the powerless, no matter which side the injustice is coming from.

The Black Knights have more missions, all better organized than before Zero’s arrival. More resistance fighters join them, and they start connecting with other resistance groups in Japan. During many of their fights they encounter and battle a powerful white Britannian knightmare frame. Unfortunately, during one of the Black Knights’ missions, Shirley’s father is killed, and she comes to live with Kallen.

In a surprising turn, they find out that Suzaku is piloting the white knightmare frame. Kallen begins attempting to kill him at school with a knife she carries, but all her attempts fail.

At the end of a battle, in which it seemed the Britannians were intending to sacrifice Suzaku to beat the Black Knights, Kallen finds herself suddenly on an unknown island. Showering under a waterfall to get rid of the sweat of the previous battle, she suddenly finds that Suzaku is on the island and is watching her. She goes to attack him, but he gets the better of her and, realizing she must be one of the Black Knights, arrests her, but he hopes to be able to change her mind and get her to switch to the Britannian side instead of having to turn her in.

But while trying to find a way off the island, they run into Zero, who has Princess Euphemia li Britannia as his own captive. Since Suzaku is Euphemia’s knight, Zero tries to talk Suzaku into trading captives, but they fall through the ground into a cave where Britannian scientists and soldiers are gathered, studying the cave. In the confusion created by their fall, Zero and Kallen steal a new, more advanced, but unfinished, knightmare frame called the Gawain and make their getaway.

Some time later, the Britannian government, under Euphemia’s directive, declares that there will be a Special Administration Region around Mount Fuji for people to go to be Japanese, not Elevens. Kallen and the rest of the Black Knights are ordered by Zero to be on alert during the opening ceremony. When Euphemia suddenly goes mad and kills the Japanese gathered there, all out battle between Britannia and the Black Knights rages. Euphemia eventually finds a knightmare frame, and when Kallen catches up with her she and Kallen fight. In the end Euphemia is forced out of her knightmare, and is killed by Zero.

After that there are a few days of tension before another battle breaks out. Zero and the Black Knights set their base at Kallen’s school, having the students there gather in one room. The student council members are there, and find out that Kallen is one of the Black Knights. Shirley is shocked and faints.

A few of the Black Knights stay at the school while the rest go out into battle. When Zero suddenly leaves the battle, Kallen follows him. He heads to the island they had once been stranded on, to the cave where they captured the Gawain. Suzaku, however, has also followed Zero to the island. In the cave he threatens to kill Zero. To protect him Kallen, who had arrived on the scene after Suzaku, shoots Suzaku, killing him. Zero orders her back to the battle, and she goes grudgingly. But from the battle she is pulled into Econtra.
